"For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads." Doctrine & Covenants 25:12
Sunday school today was about music. Something that I looooove so much. I have been surrounded my music my entire life. I can't imagine how I would be without it. I love standing around the piano singing with my family. My dad loves to sing with his girls.
The lesson today talked about how music brings the spirit. That is undeniable. Music is an instant doorway for someone to recognize the spirit. How can it not touch you? How could it not bring you closer to the Lord? I love how the hymns can touch me at different phases of my life. Even the ones I hear over and over. They can always teach someone, because that what the spirits does, it opens our hearts to teach us and by music that is pleasing unto the Lord, the spirit is invited.
Today someone mentioned that he has a rule about his kids mp3 players. He calls it music tithing. 10% of the music that is uploaded to their ipods must be church related or wholesome and uplifting. I think that is so great. I need to turn on church music more in our home. There is nothing like having the MOTab blaring through out the house.
Ooooh it was such a good lesson. I wish you all could have been in Gospel Doctrine with me hearing this lesson from our teacher. He totally rocked it. It was definately one of my favorites. So I challenge you...take your Sunday one step further... have some music playing or take a minute to play the piano that you haven't touched ina while. Let the music teach you. Let the Spirit in and enjoy the blessing He has to offer.

Tricia-
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT. In fact I just started playing the primary humns in my home all the time, as in just this past week. I found myself getting so frusturated with my kids that I just wanted to scream, but it's hard to scream and get mad when you are hearing follow the prophet in the distance. I just put it on quitly. However I found it intersting that through out the day I heard little voices singing along. It has stuck all week and I think it is going to be a common thing. It's so peaceful! Wish I could have been there for your lesson! Sounds like a great one!
